Early playing cards dating to the 15th C are rare and the decks that have survived are mostly fragmentary. Black Letter and Gothic Green Oak have collaborated in studying playing cards of this period, looking at incomplete decks and fragmentary cards combined with woodcut illustrations of the same artistic style and date to produce a complete 52 card deck. We have made these French suited and taken every effort to ensure the cards conform to the stylistic conventions of the 15th C. Few card games from this period are known though the rules for Ruff and Trump, Gleek and One and Thirty, all dating to the 1460s have survived.
